Lumley Castle

We were lucky when we booked this castle. We got a gorgeous room last minute and we had a wonderful time exploring the castle walls. However, we learned later that this is regarded as the most haunted castle in Durham County. 

Legend has it that the ghost of Lily Lumley haunts the castle at night. She was thrown down a well by two priests for rejecting the catholic faith. The priests then lied to Baron Lumley, claiming she ran away to become a nun. 

While I can’t speak for whether or not the castle is truly haunted, I can say that staying in a building as old as this one certainly had a heavy feeling to it.
