Linlithgow

We stayed in a historic part of Linlithgow that felt like a sanctuary for us. Our hotel was literally across the street from the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. A larger than life statue commemorating her stands at the foot of the Loch near the Cathedral there.

Linlithgow is located in the heart of Scotland. Everything is only a twenty minute train ride away, making Linlithgow a wonderful place to stay when traveling. The town itself is historic with old buildings and cobblestone roads. Our hotel was even historic, originating as a courthouse before being converted to little suites for travelers. I most enjoyed our tiny kitchen and loft. It allowed us to cook every morning. Every morning they would restock our fridge with fresh eggs, bread, pastries, and fruit. It was the sweetest thing to wake up to.

We spent many mornings and evenings walking around the loch and enjoying the company of the swans and geese. Locals came out around sunset to feed the birds. What a sight! Life here felt wonderful: slow and peaceful, just like we like it.
