I’ve been spending these late-summer days working on a new body of oil paintings, Greek Trapezi — a collection of Greek tablescapes celebrating the beauty of shared food, heritage, and community. Above are a couple of paintings in progress from the collection. The objects and fruits appearing throughout the paintings are chosen intentionally. Pomegranates recall the story of Persephone and the ancient symbolism of fertility, abundance, and rebirth. Figs nod to Demeter, who, while searching for Persephone, is said to have gifted the first fig tree in gratitude for hospitality. Olive branches, linen-covered tables, vessels, fruit, and familiar pieces of the Greek table come together as symbols of nourishment, welcome, memory, and the generations gathered around us. Several pieces from Greek Trapezi will be on display at a special afternoon tea at the end of September. I’ll be sharing more details about the event and the collection very soon. Alongside the paintings, I’ve also been quietly working on watercolor stationery and invitation suites, which has been such a lovely extension of my studio practice. I’m especially excited to share some new holiday designs with you soon. There is a lot taking shape in the studio right now, and I’m so happy to have you here as it unfolds!
